GOOGLE AND AFRICAN UNION LAUNCH #DISCOVERMYAFRICA

The Office of the African Union Chairperson’s Youth Envoy, in collaboration with Google, announced the launch of #DiscoverMyAfrica to celebrate the African people’s cultural diversity and vibrant spirit.

In May, digital creators across Africa have been invited to showcase short video clips telling their stories and unique perspectives using the hashtag #DiscoverMyAfrica.

Chido Mpemba, the African Union Chairperson’s Youth Envoy, says # DiscoverMyAfrica aims to empower and encourage  African youth to tell their stories and cultural riches across the globe.

He said, “Partnering with Google fosters creative expression and dialogue on content responsibility, digital preservation, and AI’s impact on Africa’s creative industries. This aligns with our vision for a digitally enabled Africa harnessing cultural wealth for economic growth and social progress.”

The short YouTube video clips encourage digital creators to showcase various aspects of African life, from art to music, food, fashion, and local landmarks.

Forget support, YouTube is returning the energy with its YouTube Music Nights in Nigeria and South Africa, showcasing the rhythmic sounds of Afrobeats and Amapiano music. The video platform listed “Africa’s Next Wave” and “Africa Superstars” as emerging talent and iconic voices capable of making the continent a global music powerhouse.

The platform will also show the Nollywood superstar and style icon, Osas Ighodaro,  in the luxurious side of Lagos with her new show, “Spa with Osas.” Also, Eniola and The Geng’s “All of Us will showcase the secrets of high school elites in their upcoming series. Samuel Perry, also known as Broda Shaggy, is set to premiere his new comedy series tag, Shaggi’s Palava.”

The platform also helps digital creators and admiring filmmakers hone their skills with various Nollywood workshop offerings that offer valuable insights to creators at all levels.

According to Addy Awofisayo, the Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa at YouTube, he said “We are committed to supporting the diverse voices and talents that make Africa’s creative landscape,”
