Twitter, the American social media company has reportedly laid off several employees in the last week. The microblogging platform has reportedly cut about 40 jobs in its data science and engineering sectors, especially in its product software engineering, monetization, and advertising prediction teams.
It is important to note that in November 2022, Twitter laid off half of its employees in public policy, media, and entertainment.
It has been reported that many of the employees affected by this lay-off are on teams in charge of the platform’s misinformation policy, global appeals, and state media.
A current team head in the organization, Ella Irwin, Twitter’s Head of Trust and Safety confirmed that the social network has let go of several members of staff. However, she denied that it did not affect the departments stated above. sh e mentioned that the organization had increased staffing in its appeals department.
Last week, some affected employees in the November 2022 lay-off said that they are yet to have received their formal severance package or separation agreement.
It is important to note that in December 2022, The New York Times reported that Twitter was considering denying laid-off employees their severance pay as a cost-cutting measure.
In other news on Twitter, it is rumored that over 200 million users’ email addresses have been stolen in a data hack and are being given away for free on a hacker forum. This stolen information includes email addresses used to set up accounts and this will worry anonymous users who registered their accounts with a sensitive address.
This has not yet been verified as most breaches turn out to contain duplicate, old or fake information. Twitter has also not responded to comments about the breach.
Also, a commercial landlord and a private flight company have recently sued Twitter alleging their failure to pay the bills.
