NIGERIA TO HOST GITEX, WORLD LARGEST TECH SHOW

GITEX Africa, the world’s biggest tech showcase, is set to come to Nigeria in 2025
On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, Kachifu Inuwa, and Trixie LohMirmand, the CEO of GITEX organizer Kaoun, signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will bring GITEX Africa, the continent’s most prominent tech showcase to Nigeria in 2025.

While the date is yet to be unveiled, a trusted and well-informed person revealed to the business world’s correspondent that the event is expected to be held in September 2025 in Lagos and Abuja. Kachifu Inuwa, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, said

“We’re not planning to bring the same GITEX happening worldwide. We want to bring a unique formula that aligns with the national strategy of Nigeria,” said Lohmerm and about the plan to bring the showcase to Nigeria.

“President Tinubu is big and loud on economic diversification, and you cannot trade in isolation. The President has mandated us to facilitate parts of this diversification,”

Nigeria is known for its good track record in tech and is the continent’s populous nation with vibrant technology events. Hosting GITEX presents a massive opportunity for the continent and the world to see the country’s most important countries and startups.

However, the continent’s largest tech showbiz started on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at  Boulevard Al Yarmouk in Morocco, with thousands of people in impressive suits present.
According to an attendee who attended the previous year’s show, the venue used was twice that of the previous year, making it a perfect fit for the tech show, as the name suggests.
