A subsidiary of the OCP group, OCP Africa, has donated a whopping sum of N10m to the Brightest University Fund.
The donation was based on the N100m target raised by corporate organizations and individuals to be awarded to the best 81 high school students, among a large number of students, in the recently concluded National qualifying exam.
The fund is aimed to be distributed among the top students transparently. According to the subsidiary group Nigeria manager, she made it known that among the missions of OCP Africa is the promotion of agricultural practices in Nigeria.
Furthermore, it helps young Nigerians have a better perception of Agriculture and equips them with the varieties of skills and knowledge required for agricultural challenges. Oladapo Ojo, the Group Managing Director of DM Holdings Limited and Executive Producer of the Brightest National Agric Science Quiz Contest, expressed gratitude for the gesture but said that the N10m donation demonstrated OCP Africa’s dedication to youth empowerment and education in Africa.
“This will play a significant role in initiating the first educational crowdsourcing project in Africa, which aims to provide young, aspirational farmers, scientists, researchers, and inventors with opportunities that could change their lives,” said Ojo.
The Brightest National Agricultural Science Quiz Contest is aimed at generating interest among African high school students in using technology to search for and create solutions that will enhance productivity and food preservation.
Sixteen thousand thirty-nine pupils from 2,559 schools around the country registered for the tournament, and 81 of them—from 57 schools spread across the six geopolitical zones made it to the second round, according to the firm.
