WRC SAFARI RALLY TO PUT KENYA ON THE MAP AS TOURISM AND ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE

The Government of Kenya is taking advantage of the World Rally Champion (WRC) Safari Rally to widen economic opportunities in the country.

William Ruto, the President of Kenya, said the event attracts over 100,000 visitors, generating job opportunities worth Sh24.7 billion.

In addition to creating jobs, the event will stimulate the tourism and hospitality industries. The President said the WRC Safari rally has generated media exposure worth 8 billion shillings and a total economic value of 63.3 billion shillings.

“This will position Kenya as a leading sporting nation, a rallying powerhouse, and a tourist destination.” He made these remarks on Wednesday during the WRC Safari Rally flag-off in Naivasha, Nakuru County. The event, however, drew 34 crews from 20 countries.

The President praised the WRC Safari Rally organizers for their 19 million tree-planting Greening Legacy program. He urged the organizers to develop the sport and ensure its sustainability by promoting talent development.

“We want to see a production line of talent like that of yesterday’s stars, led by Joginder Singh, Peter Hughes, Nick Norwicki, Shekhar Mehta, Vic Preston Sr., and Jr.,” he explained.

Governor Susan Kihika, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, and KCB CEO Paul Ruso were among the other leaders present.
