JUMIA TO PARTNER WITH ELON MUSK’S STARLINK TO EXPAND SERVICE IN AFRICA

Nigerian e-commerce company, Jumia Technologies, is collaborating with Starlink, a satellite company owned by billionaire Elon Musk to boost satellite broadband services across the continent.

Some investors such as Pernod Ricard SA and Goldman Sachs Group Inc., together with Jumia are ready to offer Starlink’s satellite terminals and kits in chosen countries in Africa. Hisham El Gabry, Jumia’s Chief Commercial Office (CEO) revealed that the initial launch will commence in Nigeria in a few weeks.

Jumia has instituted itself as one-stop platform for persons interested in buying the kits as they have cemented themselves in the market. Jumia has branded itself as a significant player in the industry, giving it a strategic competitive edge and potentially boosting its market dominance and influence.

The CEO further said “We have seen Starlink do these types of deals in Southeast Asia and South America, and now Africa will also have the opportunity to access the fast-speed internet services. The plan is to start selling through our sites and agents in Nigeria this month, and then Kenya.”
