Liberia’s leading telecommunications company, Lonestar Cell MTN, graduated over 100 Liberian youth in digital entrepreneurship on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, through its 21-day Y’ello Care Intergeneration Digital Training program.
The training was held under the theme “Empowering Entrepreneurs to Unlock Growth and Job Creation for Communities.” The program sought to empower, strengthen, and develop the skills of young Liberians in business administration, with a particular focus on digital entrepreneurship.
Participants were instructed on a variety of topics, including digital entrepreneurship, financial understanding, social media, mobile money as a merchant, business development planning, and content creation, as well as fundamental training in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Lonestar Cell MTN’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative also aimed to provide participants with the technical knowledge necessary to use the internet for e-commerce or digital marketing, making them self-sufficient and productive citizens. The goal of the initiative is to enable young people and senior citizens to generate income using digital tools.
The interactive workshop was held at the G.W. Gibson High School Computer Lab. It included hands-on practice sessions, group discussions, and empowered participants to develop a one-page business plan.
Lonestar Cell MTN Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mr. Ali Fakih remarked that the intergenerational aspect of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care brought significant value to the youth and participants of Liberia. He expressed his gratitude to all participants and partners for their devotion and commitment, as the program would not have been a success without them.
He stated that they shared the power of teamwork during the initiative, as participants shared their viewpoints, experiences, and expertise. He also pointed out that bonds were formed, stereotypes were broken down, and friendships were made during the training, resulting in a deeper understanding and appreciation of one another’s strengths and challenges.
In her keynote address, the chairperson of the Liberia Telecommunication Authority, Edwina Zackpan, praised Lonestar Cell MTN for the initiative, calling it meaningful and impactful.
