Shell has named Ralph Gbobo as the new Managing Director of its gas distribution company, Shell Nigeria Gas Limited, effective July 1, 2023. Ralph takes over for Ed Ubong, who has moved on to a new job within the Shell company.
Ralph was previously the Manager, Commercial and Non-Operated Venture of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, as well as the Shell Shareholders Representative for the SPDC’s seven onshore non-operated venture properties. He brings a plethora of oil and gas sector experience to SNG. SNG is a subsidiary of Shell Energy in Nigeria.
“Ralph’s appointment is the result of his diligence, competence, and dedication to Shell’s core values and our commitment to powering progress by delivering more and cleaner energy to businesses in Nigeria,” said Markus Hector, General Manager of Shell Energy Nigeria.
Ralph, according to the firm, would be in charge of driving SNG and safely fulfilling the company’s domestic gas expansion ambitions. “He is passionate about unlocking the domestic gas-to-energy value chain to support the development of the Nigerian economy,” the statement stated.
“I am filled with humility and resolve to spark innovation, promote sustainable growth, and create shared value for all,” Ralph remarked in response to his appointment.

During his 21-year career at Shell, he has progressed from crude and product supply and trade development in the downstream to several other roles in the upstream, including Commercial Manager Crude Handling and Gas Integration Manager roles.
