NIGERIA TAKES 7TH PLACE IN GLOBAL MOBILE PHONE USAGE, ACCORDING TO NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) revealed that Nigeria has taken the 7th place in global mobile phone usage, and the 11th in internet usage.

The NCC’s Umar Danbatta shared this at a telecom forum in Abuja. He highlighted that global data from the Network Readiness Index (NRI) emphasizes the need for digital transformation to maximize the benefits of the digital age.

Danbatta, represented by Abraham Oshadami, explained that NRI assesses 131 economies on tech, people, governance, and impact. NRI is a guide for measuring the role of information and communication technology (ICT).

“Nigeria ranks 11th in the world for internet reach and 7th for mobile use,” he stated, adding that despite these successes, the 2022 Network Readiness Index places Nigeria at 109th out of 131 countries, underscoring the need for innovation and growth-friendly strategies.
