SOUTH AFRICA CURRENCY STRENGTHENS BEFORE BUSINESS CONFIDENCE INDEX RELEASE

Early on Tuesday, the South African rand appreciated before the local business listing. This appreciation mirrors a feeble dollar on international markets.

The rand exchanged at 18.28 against the US dollar, which is 0.2% stronger than when it formerly closed at 06:00 GMT.

With more than 1.3% appreciation as at Monday, the rand followed suit after the dollar.

As a result of this, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry will release March and February business confidence figure (ZABCI=ECI) at 09:30 GMT. Further explanation will be given in respect to the general thoughts of private sector in Africa’s top industrialised economy.

Concentration turns to the consumer price index for March (ZACPIY=ECI) on last week Wednesday which could alter the South African Reserve Bank interest rates increase in May again.
